According to Giant Bomb, the rumored Playstation 4.5 is being worked on under the code-name NEO. The system will feature an updated GPU, higher memory bandwitch, and an overclocked CPU. Below are NEOs purported specs..
- CPU – 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz (versus current 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz)
- GPU – Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz (versus current AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz)
- Memory – 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s (versus current 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s)
Giant Bomb also stated Sony is being very strict on certain things that cannot be added. For example, there will be no NEO-only games and those who have a NEO system will not be separated from regular Playstation 4 owners while playing online. Developers are also not allowed to put exclusive gameplay options and exclusive unlockables in the NEO version of all their games.
One of the things that would be allowed is the an improved local co-op mode. For example, if Battlefield 5 were to have 4-player local co-op, than the NEO version would be allowed to have a 6 or 8-player local co-op mode. This would not transfer to online however.
Keep in mind this is still a rumor and Sony has not confirmed these reports.
