Nintendo Senior Executive Shigeru Miyamoto recently revealed in an interview with Fortune that Nintendo is open to the idea of movie adaptations based on some of their iconic franchises. Miyamoto stated…
“Because games and movies seem like similar mediums, people’s natural expectation is we want to take our games and turn them into movies. I’ve always felt video games, being an interactive medium, and movies, being a passive medium, mean the two are quite different.”
“As we look more broadly at what is Nintendo’s role as an entertainment company, we’re starting to think more and more about how movies can fit in with that, and we’ll potentially be looking at things like movies in the future.”
Of course Nintendo is known in the movie world for such appearances in The Wizard and Ghostbusters 2, but are also known for the poorly received Super Mario Bros. movie. Although it does seem like the likelihood of this happening everyday as Donkey Kong was just featured in the movie Pixels and leaked e-mails noted that Sony and Nintendo are in negotiations to acquire film rights to make an animated Mario movie.
