Has Ni-Oh Really Been In Development For 10 Years?

Ni-Oh

Some of you might remember that Ni-Oh was originally announced way back in 2004 for the Playstation 3. However, it quietly went away and we never heard about it again until this morning when it was re-announced during the SCEJA Press Conference.

Well Koei Tecmo did release some details in an interview with Famitsu in Japan. The company revealed that it was indeed originally scheduled to be released on Playstation 3. The most shocking is that the company continued to work on it behind the scenes. It also helped that Famitsu magazine has had a booth were fans can say their most anticipated games and every year for the past 10 years Ni-Oh has made it on that list. This lead to motivating Koei Tecmo to continue development.

Other key moments from the interview include…

  • The focus was to push the action elements instead of focusing on the RPG parts.

  • The game runs at 60fps.

  • It was decided to make it into a console exclusive title as Koei Tecmo wish to be able to use the PlayStation 4’s quality to show the world more of Japan’s yokai culture.

  • There will be giant yokai boss fights.

  • Koei Tecmo are currently thinking of some kind of opportunity that will allow players to directly try out Ni-Oh before it releases.

Ni-Oh will be released in 2016 exclusively on Playstation 4.
