GameStop Employee Reveals Why He Left Company After 15 Years

If you’ve ever visited the GameStop subreddit you will often hear about employees leaving their positions for one reason or another, but it’s not often you here it from the perspective of a tenured employee. Thankfully, we finally have one.

Reddit user Roflrex took to the subreddit to reveal his decision to leave the company after nearly 15 years with the company. For comparison sake, he started working for GameStop in 2007 just prior to the launch of Halo 3. During his journey, they started out as an Senior Game Advisor and ultimately landed the role of “Metro Training Store Manager”. This opportunity even allowed him to travel with his RD, DM, and VP.

Roflrex revealed that the holiday 2021 season is what ultimately broke him. With corporate cutting hours for a majority of their stores and not receiving a pay raise for the past three years helped lead to the decision to pursue a career for another company. While they didn’t go into specifics, this new position had a 64% increase in pay and increased benefits.

While we highly recommend that you read his entire journey, we will leave you on his final paragraph:

My issues with GameStop all stem from corporate culture. Honestly, I would have stayed and dealt with anything they threw at me if they had just offered SLs and other employees better wages. My DM gave me a small raise, as best as he was allowed towards the end, but did encourage me to leave when I was going through interviews. I do love aspects from the job, my team, the guests, the interactions, winning with pride and being able to get people things that brought them joy. I really hope the company understands what is happening in stores and figures out a way to make the job fun and worth it again. I want GameStop to thrive and improve, I want it to become the business that the people on reddit seem to think it is going to become but unfortunately, if they continue their current path, it won’t and it’s heartbreaking.
