Former Starbreeze CEO Passes Away

In a post by Starbreeze founder Christofer Sundberg on LinkedIn, we have learned their former CEO Mikael Nermark has passed away at the age of 50.

Sundberg and Pelle Sunnerot posted the following:

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Acquaintances, and family,

On behalf of Mikael’s family, it is with a very heavy heart that we let you know that Mikael have passed away due to cancer. He was a great husband, a great father, a great

friend, a great professional and he will always live on in our hearts.

Mikael have fought against his cancer for a year, and he have fought hard. His strength under the circumstances is truly inspirational and gives us all a perspective on life. He lived every day like it mattered because it does and that is something we should all take with us as we honor his memory. His laugh, his guidance to us who have worked with him, his calm, his knowledge, his humor, and his voice will be with us forever. Gone, but never forgotten.

On a personal note, and this is me, Christofer who writes this, Mikael was my rock to lean on for +20 years. I don’t think that it’s been a single occasion where I have called him, and he hasn’t answered, and I tried to do the same for him. Now my rock is not there anymore, and I am doing everything I can not to fall. As I started Liquid Swords, Mikael was a given partner and we have talked for over a decade to work together and at last I had the honor to do so. I am honored to have been his friend and business partner. For that I will be eternally grateful.

Mikael’s family is obviously going through the unimaginable right now, something that no family should have to suffer through. In respect to their wishes, please contact me or Pelle Sunnerot and we will forward any condolences directly to Mikael’s wife and children.

Mikael became 50 years old and is survived by his loving wife Åsa and their three wonderful children.
