European Commission Calls Out 5 Publishers For Geo-Blocking Games

In a new statement released by the European Commission, they have found five video game publishers who they believe violated a competition rule regarding geo-blocking games. These publishers include Bandai Namco, Focus Home, Koch Media, Valve, ZeniMax, and Capcom.

EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager released the following statement:

“In a true Digital Single Market, European consumers should have the right to buy and play video games of their choice regardless of where they live in the EU.Consumers should not be prevented from shopping around between Member States to find the best available deal. Valve and the five PC video game publishers now have the chance to respond to our concerns.”

If found guilty, each company could be required to pay a fine of up to 10 percent of their annual turnover.
