2021 Overwatch League Season To Reportedly See Format Changes

According to sources for GGRecon, the Overwatch League will be presenting franchise owners with a possible format change to the 2021 season. This would include both the Asia and North America regions having three tournaments each with a mid-season tournament and playoffs being cross-region.

The biggest reported change would be to the Asia division. The proposed change will allegedly be the addition to three Contenders teams from Asia competing in the Asia tournaments alongside their Overwatch League counterparts. One idea is to add one team from Contenders China, one from Contenders Korea, and one Wild Card. This would be due to the region going down to only 5 teams as both the London Spitfire and New York Excelsior will be going back to competing against North American teams.

As far as live events are concerned, there are currently plans to have LAN events in North America, but with no live audience. Asia could possibly see a live audience, but that would based solely on how the region deals with the pandemic going forward.

Please keep in mind all of these are just suggestions at this point and it also contains the use of anonymous sources.
