Xbox 360 Bundle Price Drop?

Written by Ryan Shoptaw Published May 31, 2011
COMMENTS

A Target Lounge Ad has a picture stating the the 250GB Xbox 360 Bundle with Kinect is priced at $299. When you actually click on the add, it still says $399.

Rumors have circulated around the web for some time that there was a price drop in the near future, and with E3 just around the corner, nobody is really ruling out anything now. Although it could also just be a mistake, or maybe something that Target is doing exclusively.

Other rumors spreading around is that the 4GB Xbox 360 could drop between $100-$150. There is also the possibility of a white Xbox 360 bundle, and a newer version of Kinect.

Guess we’ll all have to wait until E3 to find out.

ESRB Comments On Catherine

Written by Ryan Shoptaw Published May 31, 2011
COMMENTS

Well everybody probably knows by now that the ESRB loves to comment on some of the video games they rate. Catherine is no exception. Below is what the ESRB had to say…

“During one cutscene, a character is stabbed in the stomach with a knife; a large pool of blood quickly forms under her body. In order to move faster in the puzzles stages, players can order Vincent alcoholic beverages (e.g., mixed cocktails, beer, sake, whiskey); after three drinks, he begins to stumble around when moving.

These sequences are accompanied by voice-over narration: “It’s said that chugging alcohol isn’t good for you, but sometimes it’s necessary” and “[T]ake a big swig of cognac!” Throughout the game, sex and sexuality are frequently referenced, sometimes while two characters are in bed together (e.g., “I finally became a man! Got rid of my V-card, BOOM,” “If the one you loved confessed to a sexual habit that you found absolutely unacceptable, what would you do?” and “After all you’ve done to my body . . . Night after night . . .”).

Details On Modern Warfare 3′s Survival Mode

Written by Ryan Shoptaw Published May 30, 2011
COMMENTS

Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowlin told USA Today new details about Modern Warfare 3′s Survival Mode. Below is what Bowlin had to say…

“All that stuff really fleshes out Spec Ops and adds in a lot that we know our fans are going to love, some of the most addictive aspects of Multiplayer.”

“You definitely have to change up your strategy as the enemy changes up. Obviously how you fight the kamikaze dudes is different from how you fight the normal dudes and how you fight a dog is different from a dude and how you fight juggernauts, they are not only big and armored, so they will just brute force come at you. But they each have their own way of being taken out effectively.”

Multiplayer Forced By Used Games?

Written by Ryan Shoptaw Published May 30, 2011
COMMENTS

Denis Dyack, founder of Silicon Knights, said in an interview with Industry Gamers that companies are being forced to have multiplayer in their games sole because of used games.

Dyack had this to say…

“What’s really happening now is people are starting to say ‘why is everyone pushing towards multiplayer?’ Because the used game sales are hurting the single player experience so much, they’re being forced in because of the economics, not because people who are doing single player games are saying,’We really want to do multiplayer.’ It’s just a survival thing.”

“That’s why I think cloud computing and all those things are really going to do well for the industry. It’s going to take some time, but I think it’s an eventuality. I think there’s a statistic I saw that most of the boutique retailers are making more money and more sales off of used games than they are off of new games. Those companies are posting record profits and the publishers and developers are laying people off. That’s a very, very, very big problem in our industry.”

COMMENTS

Associate producer of Day 1 Studios, Jason Frederick, promises that F.E.A.R. 3 will have a “multiplayer experince like no other”

“[We] deliberately and consciously tossed out deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag. We got rid of those game modes.”

“You can pick up any shooter these days and you can play deathmatch. There are some people who are a little bit upset about this, but ultimately, it’s better for our particular game because we’ve created multiplayer modes now that you can only get from F.E.A.R. 3. So you decide to play one of these multiplayer modes, you can only pick up F.E.A.R. 3. You can’t pick up any other game and get these.”

How Many Copies Has Trials HD Sold?

Written by Ryan Shoptaw Published May 30, 2011
COMMENTS

Have any of you wondered just how many downloads Trials HD has received since it’s release on the Xbox Live Arcade? Well thanks to a press release from RedLynx we now have the answer. Below is an excerpt from the press release…

“It’s been a little more than a year and a half since Trials HD was released,” said Tero Virtala, CEO of RedLynx. “For a digitally downloaded game, this is a significant milestone, and shows one of the many ways the digital space is quickly growing and the industry itself is changing and evolving. We couldn’t be more pleased with the success, and we’d like to thank all our fans for their continuous support and enthusiasm for our game.”

“Naturally we are quite pleased with the success of Trials HD, but the most important thing for us is to continue making excellent games that other gamers will like,” said Antti Ilvessuo, Creative Director of RedLynx. “Whatever the future holds remains to be seen, but currently we have six teams working on six games, so I can guarantee there are other great RedLynx games in the works.”

“Other than that, I must remain silent. It is the Finnish way. That, and sitting in a stiflingly hot sauna during midsummer without saying a word. That is the Finnish way.”
