Even though Shift 2 was only announced a couple of weeks ago when Hot Pursuit came out. At the end of the trailer it said that the game would come out during Q1 2011. Well Slightly Mad Studios have already announced that the game has been delayed. To make up for it, they released a brand new boxart and a new video. The video has an interview with DICE Executive Producer Marcus Nilsson. Nilsson talks about some new features of the game, which is pretty much the exact same things that are in Hot Pursuit; Autolog, Social Gaming Engine, Galleries, Friends, Walls, etc.
As far as the graphics are concerned. Nilsson said that the goal is to be “at far” with Gran Turismo and Forza. The release date has now been pushed back to Q2 2011.
Earlier today an announcement was made by Capcom that Super Street Fighter IV will be coming to the arcades, and no not the XBLA. The announcement also said that the arcade versions will include Yun and Yang as playable characters. With this addition, it will now be the most expansive Super Street Fighter IV to date. Super Street Fighter IV will be available in Japan arcades December 16th. As of this publishing, no official date has been set for US and U.K. versions.
In a recent interview with EA Games President Frank Gibeau, he told Develop that he would like to focus more on self-generated franchises like Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge rather then games such as the James Bond series. Here’s what he had to say…
“The percentage royalties you have to pay the licensors are going the wrong way for publishers. The margins are being squeezed. And, to top it all off, the movie-game business is falling apart. Both of those games had some degree of success but they didn’t quite meet our expectations, for sure,” admitted Gibeau. “I think the reasons why, in both cases, are very different. What I learned from Mirror’s Edge is that you have to execute, you have to spend more time on a game to ensure it’s polished, and you need to have the depth and persistence of an online game.”
Dispite great sales numbers, Dead Space apparently didn’t meet EA’s original expectations.
“Dead Space was different. It made money for us, but didn’t hit expectations. We felt like we had an IP that struck a chord, and one that hit quality, but again it missed multiplayer modes. So when we re-worked Dead Space, we looked at how to make it a better idea, how do we make the story more engrossing, how do we build Isaac as a character, how do we make this game a success online.But one thing I will say is that we won’t give up on those IPs. A new idea obviously has a lot of risk attached to it, but if you get it all right it can be huge.”
This somewhat crushes rumors about Mirror’s Edge 2 being canceled. We hope to have more soon.
While I haven’t really herd of any kinds of trouble regarding the new update. I started to discover first hand the problems that seem to have unfolded recently with the new Xbox update. My Halo Reach Special Edition console recently started freezing up on me randomly about 2 weeks ago. Well finally last night, after 12 freezes in less then 10 minutes, my xbox finally got a red light in the middle. I took a picture of it using my phone and sent it into Andrew. This morning, I called Xbox customer service and went through their list of troubleshooting. They first told me to go to memory and reset my cache list 3 times. After about 5 minutes, the console froze up yet again. This time when I restarted my console, I got a red light and my screen said I had the E71 error. So I called Customer Support yet again and explained to them what just happened. After about 40 minutes of troubleshooting, they finally told me that I was going to have to send my console in. That’s right everyone, my Halo Reach console that’s only 2 MONTHS OLD has to be sent in. So I decided to try and do some research and see if anyone else has had this problem. I instantly noticed that many people on the official xbox forums, as well as other gaming forums around the internet have been bombarded with questions about their consoles receiving the Red Ring of Death. Many players who are currently using the old Xbox 360 who didn’t have issues with the RRoD previously are now starting to have problems with it. One man on the forums even said that both his Halo 3 and Resident Evil consoles experiences the RRod in the same day. When I told them that my Halo Reach console received the E71 error, everyone was shocked to here what I had to say. It has come to my realization and many other gamers around the world that the cause of all of these problems in the last month have been caused by the new dashboard update. Microsoft hasn’t even released any kind of statement regarding this issue that is causing many headaches. Many gamers who have experienced this issue before have sworn to never buy another console again from Microsoft. We here at Gaming Conviction have decided to do our own investigation into this issue. We have already sent some e-mails to people within Microsoft for any kind of statement but as of this time have yet to receive any kind of reply from anyone. For those who loved the first Bayonetta game, you are gonna love what we have in store for you next. Hideki Kamiya confirmed on twitter earlier today that Bayonetta 2 is currently in development. Here is what was posted by a fan and the reply from Kamiya.
“In next year’s TGS will we see a first look on the new Bayonetta? Or at least when are we going to?” To which Kamiya replied, “You’ll see soon.” He also later on divulged, again via Twitter, that they’ve already got DLC plans for Bayonetta 2.
Earlier today, a list was leaked on the internet containing all the achievements in the upcoming action-adventure game straight from Japan, Catherine. We here at Gaming Conviction are proud to say that we have an EXCLUSIVE english translation of the entire achievement list, both secret and not so secret. While lots of gamers are looking forward to Spike’s Video Game Awards on December 11, Xbox fans have even more to look forward to. Cliff Bleszinksi teased that some new Gears of War 3 gameplay footage will be show during the show. During the video on Spike’s official website. Bleszinski says that the footage that will amazing, but “it’s not what you’re expecting”, The video also says that the new footage will “have everyone talking”.
Whenever you think of cheating in video games, many things probably pops into your minds. Unplugging controllers, lag switches, trigger mods, etc. Well while Call of Duty seems to always have lots of cheaters, another fan favorite game has been the subject to cheating as well. Sega has officially reset all leaderboards on Sonic 4: Episode 1 earlier today. It doesn’t matter if you made the leaderboards in an honest way, everybody had to suffer in the end. Sega has yet to announce how they will address the cheaters as of this publishing. Despite possible punishment, there are already players who are hacking the leaderboards and editing their own personal scores.
There have recently been brand new icons and achievements added to Super Street Figher IV. The pictures indicate a possibility of Evil Ryu returning to the Street Fighter series in a SFIV DLC. Yoshinori Ono said last month that he wants Yun and Yang to be featured in Super Street Fighter IV as a DLC, he even tweeted that he talked to XBL and PSN about the possibility of it. So that would mean that Yun, Yang, and Evil Ryu would be in the new DLC if reports are true. Keep in mind that this is still a rumor and that none of this info has been confirmed by Capcom.
In a recent interview with Develop-Online.net, Ray Muzyka, co-founder of Bioware said that there are way to many games being released these days. Muzyka said…
“It’s interesting, because it’s very, very busy, it makes it very hard as a player to keep up. The releases clump up – even though that is changing a little bit. For us, we have to play our games, play competitor’s games, play other relevant games, and play the handful of games we just really want to play more of and finish. I try and play two or three hours a night, but that’s hard and it’s not enough.”
Then again, Bioware has to be busy, especially when they are suppose to reveal a brand new game at Spike’s Video Game Awards next month.
