It can easily be seen that Red Dead Redemption, by Rockstar Games is one of the most anticipated games of 2010. Rockstar has made open-world games for years, but this is their first attempt in making one with a massive, rural environment. They have faced many challenges, including creating a believable environment, on-the-fly cut-scene animations, and more.
In RD:Redemption, you play as a partialy reformed outlaw known as John Marston, as he hunts down members of his former gang in the US and Mexico. In the game, you can roam through a massive world, filled with hundreds of unique characters. Not to mention, the game is filled with hidden treasure, literally. In some of the towns you visit, you will find treasure maps. Follow these maps, and next thing you know, you have found a buried chest full of gold.
RD:Redemption has a very different world. Instead of looking in any direction and seeing buildings, as you scan the horizon, you will see hills, mountains, and the occasional cactus. Did I mention you will also see dirt, and a whole lot of it? Each town has it’s unique feel to it, and each character has his/her own unique attitude.

As you travel through the Wild West, you will be forced to make decisions that affect your honor. One key example, is whether you choose to protect the travelers, or assist the bandits who are attacking them. In addition, you can take some side missions, such as capturing escaped criminals. One decision that will affect your honor, is whether to take them alive, or kill them.
You will have access to revolutionary, early 20th century weapons, including scoped weapons, and even the original, Gatling Gun (seen here). Use of these weapons, and the “dead eye” shot will make you a very formidable opponent on the battlefield.
Rockstar is following the lead of so many games these days, offering exclusive content to those who pre-order the game from Gamestop. However, Rockstar has not announced what customers will recive, they are leting the customers vote. More information will be available from Gamestop on January 4.
From what we’ve seen, Red Dead: Redemption will be far from any other open-world game on the market today. This game is definitely going to be an experience all it’s own. We’ll have to see if it holds up to everyones’ expectations when the game saddles up on April 27, 2010.
