HANDS-ON: Fall 2009 Dashboard Update

Later this fall, you will recieve a new update on your XBox 360 console.  This update include many new features, and improves many functions.  I got a chance to try out this update recently.

The first, and probably most noticible, when you view a friends gamer profile, and they have a gold account, you will notice a new number next to their gamertag.  This number indicates the number of consecutive years they have been a member of XBox Live.

The most talked about though, seems to be the new Avatar Marketplace, and Avatar Awards.  When the update is publicly released, some games (expected to include ODST, MW2, and many others), certain achievements will unlock something for your avatar, such as a shirt, hat, or one of the new “props”.  Props are these items your avatar can play with.  Right now, they seem to be overpriced, but, I expect the price will be reconsidered at release.  On the market place, you can purchase some props, or clothing from select designers.

Also, the update contains enhanced Netflix support, and the ability to host movie parties with your friends.  With this feature, you can get all your friends together and watch the same movie.

There were many enhancements also.  Among the many enhancements, the party re-joining function has been improved, so that you reconnect to your party faster, and more reliably than before.

Many more features were included, but these are some of the most key features in this update.  Stay tuned for more indepth coverage of these features, and more.

Recently, SC: Conviction was pushed back from Fall 2009, to March 10, 2010.  This is yet another push back in the release of the sequal to Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and the 5th installation of the searies.

Splinter Cell: Conviction picks up where SC:DA leaves off.  Sam Fisher has just finished his most dangerous mission yet.  He is wanted by the police, Echelon has disowned him, and he has no where to turn.  Use gadgets, stealth, and what ever you can find to evade the police.

Stay tuned for more details.
